Product Recommendation?

Posted: 2 years ago Quote #244
Hi,

I have a new project and could use a product recommendation. Here's what I'm trying to do:

- Connect iPhone / iPod via line level output to receiver
- Use an op-amp-based preamp to provide gain to correct signal mismatch, gain is roughly 6dB.
- Use an EDCOR 1:1 matching transformer to provide isolation
- Input voltage to transformer will be <= 2.1 Vrms
- Input impedance of receiver is >20k Ohms

Questions:
- Which product?
- Does it matter if it's 600 ohm: 600 ohm or 10k ohm : 10k ohm transformer?

Thanks and regards,

Rob

Any of the MXL, PC, PCW, WSM or XSM series would work. I would suggest a 10K to 10K more than the 600 to 600. They are both 1:1 transformers, but as the impedance gets higher the more turns it needs. That is why we have a 150, 600, 10K and 15K versions.

Thank you for the recommendations.

Are there any appreciable differences in terms of frequency response, allowable DC, distortion, etc.?

If I may add my twonie in here....

I've so far used the 15K:15K for input isolation and a 10K:600 for output. The frequency response of either will blow your mind at 8Hz to just under 130KHz, if terminated properly (no peaks, no dips, nothing rubbishy like that).

Distortion will be significantly lower than an iAnything can produce.

Cheers!
