Edcor's RMX1: better performance per dollar than anything else, period.
The RMX1 delivers 99% of the performance for one third the price of other 'famous' brands. Great ribbon mics can cost well over $1,000.00 and some of them might be worth it... but a premium output transformer like the Edcor RMX1 can deliver a great ribbon sound from many mics costing less than $300.00. The whole concept here is better sound for less money, and nobody offers a better value than Edcor.

I put two of these RMX1 in my $70 (yes, wow again) MXL R40 ribbon microphones.  I also adjusted the ribbon tension on the mics to resonate at 40-50 Hz when tapped, because one of them was slack from the factory.

The results were spectacular.  The R40 is already a price performance champion, out of the box, with its smooth and dark presentation.  But it is plauged by a slight boxiness.  The RMX1 transformers let the mic "open up" and sound less constrained.  Yes, it sounds "expensive."  I'll use these mics along side any in my (impressive) collection with confidence.  I'll be ordering Edcor again!!  What a great introduction to ribbon microphones.

My "poor man's RCA 44-BX" sounds terrific!
I'm an old broadcast journalist (literally) who's now spending some spare time in my home studio with various voice over projects. Though I have no quarrel with my top shelf German condenser mike, I have missed the unmistakeably warm, rich sound of the classic RCA ribbon mikes I "grew up with".  I have, however, been reluctant to part with the several thousand dollars needed to obtain a genuine RCA collector piece or beautiful but equally pricey AEA replica.  Some online puttering, though, led me to a ribbon motor from Artur Fisher in Latvia (DIY Audio Components) and your wonderful RMX1 transformer. The addition of a length of brass tubing, a bit of wire mesh, a Neutrik XLR connector, a chunk of pipe insulation foam, a few machine screws and a couple of hours of enjoyable tinkering resulted in my own "poor man's 44-BX". I am astonished at the performance. My homebrew mike sounds every bit as luxurious and full as the vintage classics -- perhaps even better. Your transformer, of course, is a major reason why.  I cannot say enough good things about Edcor.  I WILL be back for more!

Excellent Quality And The Best Value!
I purchased two of these to upgrade a couple of NADY RSM-4's.  The results were startling. The RSM-4 already sounds great stock; however, replacing the stock transformer with Edcor's RMX1 and removing the blast screens from the ribbon motor turn the RMS-4 into a microphone that rivals a $1,300.00 Royer!
